Braves win Mini Club Championship in Cotonou,Benin


The Braves of Customs Division of Ghana Revenue Authority,won the Vainqueur S. Homme 6th Edition Tourndi RBBC de L'Amitie,which took place in Cotonou,Benin.


The competition comprised of all the leading baskeball clubs along the west coast, from Nigeria,Togo,Ghana and the host country Benin. Dodan Warriers,Aspac,Renaissance and Braves were the major participants.

The competition which began on the 6th saw Braves basketball team coming first and Aspac of Benin taken the first runner up position. The finals between these teams was fiercely contested but eventual winners,Braves overpowered their opponent in the fourth quarter of the final game to win the game.


The captain of the Braves team in an interview with Paul of Metro TV,pointed out that,though the best player of the competition had over 95 baskets or points to his name,it did not make his Nigerian Club the winners. This was because the Braves Club played as a team and therefore points in terms of baskets made individually,were shared amongst all the players,emphasizing the team strength.

  The team was captained by Norbert Baniba Dodzi in the absence of most of the senior players. The performance of key players like Hashim,Romeo,Enoch,Bigtym and the captain himself, raised alot of eyebraws as it showed the level of rapid growth the local game is gaining.

The chief sports organizer for Customs Division,Mr Benjamin S. Baafi indicated in his interview the need to look forward towards the upcoming club championship and hopes that Brave will use this latest hounours to gear up. He further encourage cooperate Ghana to assist in the development of basketball in the country.



Braves of Customs Basketball team,made up of men and women,some of whom are not permanent employees,have for the past 17 years been the leading team in the Greater Accra league and other special competitions.

The Success story of Basketball in Ghana will be incomplete without the mention of the Authority Basketball men team. The team have been champions of Ghana for the past 15 years consecutively and remains unbeaten. The team has seen the men winning virtually every competition that it has participated in locally, though the performance internationally has not been the best. But in recent times, international performance has seen some level of improvement.

The Basketball men team is remembered on the Africa continent for their outstanding performance in the top (8) clubs in the West Africa Zone competition held in Benin where the team won gold medal. The team is expected to leave the shores of Ghana and compete in the Africa Basketball Club Championship Zone 3 competition later in the year.

LADIES


The Basketball ladies team has achieved less in silver ware as compared to their male counterparts but has seen a lot of transformation this season and look good to winning all competitions.


The team set a goal of annexing the 2013 Security Service Association Games and were preparing feverishly for the games till it was postponed. The womens basketball team which have played second fiddle to the Police womens team for some years,has seen some new entrants in the team. Though majority of whom are civilians, efforts are far on the way to get them recruited to ensure that the team regains its status as the best female basketball team in Ghana,a feat that has eluded them for some years.
